What a 12 months the Women’s gymnastics team have had, from the historic team bronze at the Olympics, to Commonwealth and now Europeans success!
The team set a silver lining by winning team Silver behind Italy, in the team final. Alice Kinsella came second to take the All-around silver medal on the first day of the Championships. Alice produced a superb performance amassing an impressive total of 54.132 points across all 4 pieces of apparatus!
Following Alice’s silver medal, Ondine Achampong also took to the medal podium winning another outstanding silver medal, this time on Beam.
It was no surprise that 2021’s European Gymnast of the year broke the mould to defend her title and bring home a Gold for GB. Jessica Gadirova impressed the judges and inspired the crowd with her remarkable routine and immense tumbling to finish on top of the podium to be crowned once again European champion!
Jessica’s sister Jennifer also finished a very creditable 5th on the floor, following her team’s silver medal.
There were also some impressive performances in the Junior competition and it looks like a bright future for British Gymnastics! But the Women’s team will be turning their attention to the World Championships in Liverpool next month.
Now it’s over to the men’s competition with the GB men in qualifying action tonight for the All-Around finals.
