The Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Team events concluded on Tuesday. The competition proved why we love the Olympics, as it was an ever-changing picture all the way to the end!
First up was the men’s event, which came to a dramatic end in what was a highly competitive and thrilling event! But it was the Russian Olympic Committee who took the Gold ahead of the home nation, Japan by the finest of margins. China took a well-deserved Bronze with GB an impressive fourth-place finish, managing to hold off the USA in 5th place. Max, Joe, and the gang rounding off a strong start to their individual Olympic challenges.
On Tuesday it was the turn of the Women, in what was an enthralling encounter. The highly-rated USA team and their nearest rivals the Russian Olympic Committee went toe to toe all the way. With twist and turns aplenty, it’s the ROC that came out on top, winning the Gold medal. Simone Biles pulling out halfway through the event, may or may not have made a difference, but we will never know!
This wasn’t just a two-way competition however, Team GB’s quartet of Olympic debutants clinched a well-deserved bronze! A fete that has not been replicated since 1928 in Amsterdam. Coming back from 7th place after two pieces of apparatus they managed to eclipse Italy with almost the last roll of the competition dice. An incredible display and a well-deserved medal!
Home nation Japan came 5th and you can see all the Results and final table here.
